The entire John Edwards affair thing holds almost no interest for me. Gee, another politician turned out to be a lying snake who cheated on his wife. Wow, what a shocker. This is news? Tell me when you find a politician who didn’t cheat on his wife and get caught lying about it. That’s news. [...]

When we go on vacation, we come back with a lot more stuff than we took with us. For my wife, shopping in a new place and buying mementos is half the fun of going on vacation, and she takes full advantage of every trip. In fact, we regularly pack an empty duffel bag on [...]

We originally had no big plans for this day of our vacation. With a long, hot day planned for Wednesday at Six Flags, and another one planned for Friday, when we figured to tour downtown and see a Cardinal game, Thursday was set aside to be more low key. Among our options were just chilling [...]

Forget all of the good things I’ve ever said about Google Maps. (Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever said anything good about Google Maps on this site, so consider this a preemptive plea to ignore me if I do.) By trusting that the good people at Google know what they’re doing, my family [...]

As I said a couple of days ago, our vacation this year is pretty low key. No Disney blowout, like last summer. No week in Hawaii, like the trip Sandy and I took in September. We just don’t have the money or energy for it this year, not after moving into the [...]

Okay, I’ve been absent from here a lot lately, and I don’t have much of an excuse. It was a combination of lots of hours at work, travel for work, summer sports schedules for the kids, being busy in general from moving into a new house, and a healthy dash of laziness. Many apologies. Allow [...]

A week ago today, I celebrated the 40th anniversary of causing my parents to drive to the hospital in the middle of the night and forcing my mother to be undressed in an elevator as they rushed her to a delivery room. Time of birth: 3:57 AM. I’d have hung that over my [...]

I don’t hunt. I don’t have anything against people who do hunt, I suppose, but it’s never been anything I’ve wanted to do. So it’s entirely possible that I’m just completely uninformed on the following subject. Any clarification that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. (more…)

Okay, just got back from lovely Armonk, NY again. I spend so much time there that I sometimes feel that I might as well buy a second home there. Then I realized that the median home value in Armonk is almost $1.5 million, and that thought went away. Permanently. (more…)

Prepare yourself for some boring office banter. My boss, a genuinely nice guy, but pretty much over his head in his current position, comes to my desk yesterday and the following conversation ensues. I swear, this is actually how the conversation happened, to the best of my recollection. (more…)
