I almost forgot to give an Amazing Race update this week, probably because the entire episode was pretty predictable and generally wasn’t noteworthy.
At the end of last week’s show, we got a sneak preview of Linda, the female half of the self-described “hicks from the sticks” team, bawling by the side of a road, wailing about [...]

For the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with an eye problem. Nothing major, just some unexplained redness in my left eye. Turns out, after several visits to the ophthalmologist, that I have something called an “episcleral trauma”, which basically means the covering of my eyeball was damaged at some point. I still don’t have [...]

Today is about the truth.
The recent troubles faced by many in baseball as they deal with accusations of steroid usage have taught me an important lesson in public relations. The best course of action seems to be to face the issue directly, convey all the facts, take responsibility for your actions, apologize to everyone who you hurt and [...]

It’s been a while since I was hooked on a television show for more than a season or so. Probably “The Sopranos” was the last time I made a point of being in front of the TV on a certain night at a certain time just to watch a certain show. And before “The Sopranos”, [...]

Television reporters who wear safari vests when reporting from a remote location.
I don’t get it. It made sense for photographers back in the days before digital cameras, because they probably needed all of those pockets to carry film canisters. Seems logical.
But why do the TV people need these? Do they store their pancake makeup in [...]

I just saw this personality test posted on Joe Posnanski’s blog. According to Joe, he was a diagonal squiggle, which supposedly makes him mad as a hatter.
Well, as I commented there, I’ve been working for one gigantic global company or another nearly 20 years now, and they have these incessant waves of tests they like [...]

The news that Michael Phelps was caught smoking marijuana doesn’t really surprise me. I mean, he’s 23, he’s basically treated like a rock star wherever he goes, he’s clearly burned off every ounce of fat on his body and he likes munchies. Seems like a pretty strong profile of a pot user to me!
Just kidding. [...]

This list was compiled over the past week of traveling to Atlanta, then Chicago, then back home in time for my daughter’s Friday night basketball game. You can probably guess the location where I thought of each of these..
People who leave Christmas trees up through January
People who hog the armrest on an airplane
People who talk [...]
