The economic stimulus package proposed by President George W. Bush, and largely supported by both parties in Congress as they consider various modifications and caveats to it, is utterly worthless. Not only will it not stimulate the U.S. economy, but it will actually serve to stimulate China’s economy instead. On top of that, the U.S. economy doesn’t need [...]

As any good process improvement expert can tell you, the wave of the future (even the present in many cases) in modern offices is to be paperless. Letting your staff cut the ties between themselves and their thick binders of dead trees is absolutely the way to go. Even a top-of-the-head list of benefits is [...]

In the interests of proving either that I’m not crazy or that I’m much more of an old fuddy-duddy than I think I am, I need some help. I’m going to describe a pair of incidents that struck me a certain way, and I need outside opinions to help me figure out if I’m right or [...]

We have a 12-year old son, and it’s become clear to us over the past few months that the PG-13 rating is Hollywood’s chosen method for torturing parents. Judging whether or not a PG-13 movie is something we think our son can see is nothing but a crapshoot.

It’s a bit of a misnomer to say that I work in Corporate America, because I actually work for a Swiss company. But, despite the fact that there are certain cultural nuances to working for a foreign-based company that take some time to get used to, that’s probably a nit-picky point. After all, half of our business [...]

If you are thinking of buying a house in a part of the country that gets any amount of ice or snow, avoid anything that has a sloping, north-facing driveway. Just trust me and my aching tailbone on this one.

The subject today is the Jim Rice debate, again, only this time I promise to be nice. There will be no curses in this post.
In fact, I won’t even give the name of the person I’m talking about, or offer a link to the particular chat in question, because I just don’t need that headache. I’ve been chewed [...]

“History is a vast early warning system.” — Norman Cousins
Let’s talk briefly about avoidance.
A few years ago, my lovely wife noticed a spot of dry skin on her forehead, almost all the way up into the hairline. It didn’t bother her at all, but it wouldn’t go away either, so she asked her doctor about it the next time [...]

Just my personal list of stuff in life that is unquestionably cool but rarely praised. I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list in the future, but here’s the first things that come to mind:
